What's New at Serendipity Studio!
Hey Everyone! Kay Whitt here from Serendipity Studio. I'm guest posting today about my new fall collection of patterns. This was a busy fall! I was very inspired by current fashion trends for my newest collection. As I was perusing the Internet over the summer, I noticed that denim jackets were making a big comeback and I loved that they were being paired with maxi skirts and boots. I decided it was time to design a pattern with all the details of a denim jacket, so Jordan was born. By providing a pattern, it is up to the sewer to decide on the fabric. This jacket is fabulous in denim of course, but that is only the starting point. I made it from linen, cotton sateen, and wool. Every jacket came out great and looked completely different from the others. That's the beauty of a pattern!
So that you would have something fabulous to wear with your new jacket, I designed a set of skirts. This is my third volume of Fashion Formula Skirts. This time, I explored the concept of a 12 panel skirt made 12 different ways. It was a fun challenge! The skirts are all offered in a neat booklet and the coolest part about these is that there are NO pattern pieces! These skirts are 100% cut with a rotary cutter, based on your hip measurements. It just doesn't get any easier than that! There are options for skirts with plain panels, gathered panels, godets, and box pleats. You just won't believe the versatility. It is a perfect transition pattern for quilters who would like to venture into simple garment sewing.
I also designed the Ramona Wrap Dress for this collection. This dress goes together in snap as there are only 5 pattern pieces and no facings! The added bonus is the bias binding that finishes the entire edge of the dress. This is a true wrap dress with a generous overlap on the front for those windy days. It is easy to make and sophisticated to wear....need I say more?
The last design for fall is a collection of accessories called Zip to It! All of the accessories have easy to install zippers as well as a lovely ruched detailing that uses jelly roll strips. These accessories are a wonderful way to showcase a collection of fabric. There are 4 designs in the booklet: the hexie pouch, tablet sleeve, triangle bag, and project portfolio. The ones shown here were made from Honeysweet by Fig Tree & Co.
The hexie pouch and triangle bag are great multi-taskers. They would be great for holding a myriad of items to keep you organized. The tablet sleeve is lined with super soft flannel and is designed to fit just about any tablet size computer. The extra bonus are the two additional zippered pockets on the outside, perfect for holding small items. The project portfolio has two zippered clear vinyl pockets, perfect for small handwork projects or even makeup! All of the projects sew together quickly and would make a lovely gift set.
Well, that's it for the fall collection! Of course, all patterns are available through United Notions, so order yours today!
