Covering the World - Doug Leko

Covering the World - Doug Leko

I've been quilting for most of my life, and I've made hundreds of quilts for my business, Antler Quilt Designs.  I'm also a collector of antique quilts.  So I have a lot of quilts.

CT CTW Doug Leko - Stack of Quilts

When I heard about this Covering the World campaign, I asked my friends at Moda if I could participate.  So a big "Thank You" to AccuQuilt, Baby Lock and Moda.  Nothing feels better than being wrapped in a quilt!

The quilt I'm donating is Airflow.  The name of the pattern came from the Ruby Star Society collection that inspired the quilt, Airflow by Sasha Ignatiadou, a guest designer.

It's a Throw quilt, measuring 68" x 84".  The modern fabrics make this a great quilt for kids and adults.

Airflow will be donated to Sharing and Caring Hands, a Minnesota-based organization.  Their Mission Statement says it all - Sharing and Caring Hands was established to be a bridge from the caring, concerned community to the people in need of their help. We receive no government or United Way funding and rely solely on donations to do our work. Every year, the donations of goods, services, time, and money by thousands of people allow Sharing and Caring Hands to make a difference in the lives of individuals, families, and children in need.

There are a few more things to tell you about this quilt.  If you know anything about me, you know that I love a great backing fabric.  I also learned from my Mom that it's worth taking the time to match the print on any seams on the backing.

CT CTW Doug Leko - Airflow Backing

I chose this print for the backing partly because I love the gold metallic on this, and because I liked the color.

Thank you to my friends Janet Moser and Sue Painter for their help in testing this pattern, and to Sandy Pluff for working her long-arm quilting magic.

If you're interested in making this quilt, the pattern is AQD 0269.  You can also find it on my website - Antler Quilt Design.

The blocks for this quilt use flying geese that finish at 3" x 6", so if you use an AccuQuilt to cut pieces, the die for 3" x 6" geese will work.

I showed you my stack of quilts, this is the other stack that lives with me.

Do you make table runners?  I started making them when I was working in my Mom's quilt shop, and they have always been one of my favorite things to make.  I love making them so much, I've done three books featuring table runners and toppers.

CT CTW Doug Leko Tabletastic books

Tabletastic!  Tabletastic! 2.  And Tabletastic! 3.

Each book has twenty patterns for table runners and toppers - fourteen table runners and six toppers.  I also show each design in two colorways.  They're great for scraps and pre-cuts.

From Tabletastic! - Kensington.

If you're new to making runners and toppers, they're great for using up your pre-cuts and scraps.  They make great gifts, especially at the holidays, made with holiday fabrics.

From Tabletastic! 3 - Balmoral.  Made with the coming-soon Holly Jolly collection by Urban Chiks.

CT CTW Doug Leko Tabletastic 3 Runner

Tabletastic! 3 - Portsmouth.  This was made with the upcoming collection, Slow Stroll by Fancy That Design House.

All three books are available at your favorite quilt shop, or at Antler Quilt Design.

Thank you again to Baby Lock, AccuQuilt and Moda for asking me to be a part of Covering The World - One Quilt At A Time.
