From fabric 1, cut:
{A} (2) 2” X 3¼” rectangles
From fabric 2, cut:
{A} (2) 2” X 3¼” rectangles
From fabric 3, cut:
{D} (1) 1” x 6¼” rectangle
From background fabric, cut:
{B} (8) 1¼” squares
{E} (4) ¾” squares
{F} (1) ¾” X 1” rectangle
{C} (2) 3¼” X 3½” rectangles

12” block
From fabric 1, cut:
{A} (2) 3½” X 6” rectangles
From fabric 2, cut:
{A} (2) 3½” X 6” rectangles
From fabric 3, cut:
{D} (1) 1½” x 12” rectangle
From background fabric, cut:
{B} (8) 2” squares
{E} (4) 1” squares
{F} (1) 1” X 1½” rectangle
{C} (2) 6” X 6½” rectangles

Instructions are for the 12” block. Press seam allowances as indicated by the arrows.

STEP 1. MAKE UNIT A AND B

On the wrong side of 2 background 2” squares, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner. Layer a marked background square atop the bottom left corner of a Fabric #1 3½” x 6” rectangle with right sides together and raw edges aligned as shown. Stitch the pair together on the drawn line. Trim seam allowance to ¼”.

In the same manner, sew a background 2” square to the opposite corner of the blue print #1 3½” x 6” rectangle. Sew, trim, and press to make a Fabric #1 Unit A.

Repeat steps to make a Fabric 2 print Unit A.

In the same manner, sew a background 2” square to the upper left and bottom right corners of a blue print #1 3½” x 6” rectangle. Sew, trim, and press to make a Fabric #1 Unit B.

Repeat steps to make a Fabric 2 Unit B.

STEP 2. MAKE UNIT C

On the wrong side of 4 background 1” squares, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner. Layer a marked background square atop a corner of the Fabric #3 1½” x 12” rectangle with right sides together and raw edges aligned as shown. Stitch the pair together on the drawn line. Trim seam allowance to ¼”.

In the same manner, sew a background 1” square to the remaining corners of the Fabric #3 1½” x 12” rectangle. Sew, trim, and press to make a Unit C.

STEP 3. ASSEMBLE BLOCK

Lay out 2 Unit As, 2 Unit Bs, Unit C, 2 background 6” x 6½” rectangles, and background 1” x 1½” rectangle as shown. Stitch together pieces in each column.

Stitch together the columns to finish block.
