INGREDIENTS
1¼ yards Fabric 1 [37600 11]
1½ yards Fabric 2 [37605 14]
2 yards Fabric 3 [37603 11]
1 yard Fabric 4 for border
4¾ yards backing
5/8 yard binding
INSTRUCTIONS
From Fabric 1, cut:
[A] (208) 2½” squares
[B] (48) 2½” x 4½” rectangles
[C] (24) 2⅞” squares cut once on the diagonal to make 48 triangles
From Fabric 2, cut:
[A] (176) 2½” squares
[B] (80) 2½” x 4½” rectangles
[D] (12) 3⅜” squares
From Fabric 3, cut:
(31) 8½” squares
From Fabric 4, cut:
(7) 3½” x WOF strips. Remove selvedges and piece end-to-end. Subcut (2) 3½” x 72½” side borders and (2) 3½” x 62½” top and bottom borders
From Binding fabric, cut:
(8) 2½” x WOF strips
STEP 1. MAKE FLYING GEESE
Draw a diagonal line on the back a 2½” Fabric 2 square {A}. Place square right sides together on the right-hand side a 2½” x 4½” Fabric 1 rectangle {B}. Sew along the line and trim ¼” away from the seam. Press. Repeat on the left-hand side, creating a flying geese block. Make (48) units measuring 2½” x 4½” unfinished.
Repeat with Fabric 2 B rectangles and Fabric 1 A squares. Make 80 units measuring 2½” x 4½” unfinished.
STEP 2. MAKE SQUARE IN SQUARE CENTERS
Sew one triangle to edge of 3⅜” square. Press. Repeat on opposite side. Trim dog ear corners. Add triangles to remaining sides and press. Square should measure 4½” square.
STEP 3. ASSEMBLE BLOCK A
Join Block A components as shown. Make 20.
STEP 4. ASSEMBLE BLOCK B
Join Block B components as shown. Make 12.
STEP 5. ASSEMBLE ROWS
Join A blocks and squares cut from Fabric 3 to create row. Make 5.
Join B blocks and squares cut from Fabric 3 to create row. Make 4.
ASSEMBLE QUILT
Join the rows as shown. Add borders. Press well. Sandwich, baste, quilt and bind as desired.
This quilt finishes at 62" x 78".
