Project Jelly Roll 2021 is almost here and we're ready Roll!

Did you see that there is a new book from the Moda All-Stars featuring Jelly Rolls?  

The Moda All-Stars On A Roll Again.  As always, proceeds from the book will go to a designated charity, and this book will benefit World Central Kitchen.  This is an extraordinary organization founded by chef José Andrés to feed people affected by natural disasters.  Within hours of a hurricane, earthquake, Covid, etc., World Central Kitchen is mobilizing to get to the area to begin feeding people in need.  

"We envisioned an organization that would use food to empower communities and strengthen economies, and for many years we saw an amazing impact through our clean cookstoves initiative, culinary training programs, and social enterprise ventures. But we had no idea we would one day be answering calls in Puerto Rico and around the world to serve meals in the aftermath of disaster – and we quickly learned that food is a powerful tool to heal communities in times of crisis and beyond." 

While we love all fourteen quilts in the book, these are two of our favorites.

Bear Necessities by Sandy Klop.  Using one Jelly Roll and 3½ yards of background, this quilt finishes at 52½" x 66".  (Sandy used her Sweet Harmony collection from 2019.  For something equally wonderful, Story Time is on it's way to shops this week.)

Family Gatherings by Lissa Alexander.  Made with two Jelly Rolls, this quilt finishes at 68½" x 68½".  (The two Jelly rolls are BasicGrey's Cider.  The collection is in shops now... unless they're sold out.)

There are five new patterns for this year's National Sew A Jelly Roll Day.  All are free patterns, and they are only available from your favorite quilt shop.  

Two of this year's patterns require our Project Jelly Roll 2021 Half-Hexie template.  

The template is available at shops participating in National Sew A Jelly Roll Day - if your favorite shop doesn't carry it, they can order it from Moda.  It is #2001 11.  (We've heard that a few shops are including a template with the purchase of a Jelly Roll.  Just saying...)

Made with one Jelly Roll, five 5/8s or 2 Fat Quarters and 1 yard of background yardage, Taffy finishes at 53" x 57".  The collection shown here is Sincerely Yours by Sherri & Chelsi.

Tiddlywinks is the second quilt made with the Half-Hexie template.  Made with one Jelly Roll and 2¼" background, this quilt finishes at 58" x 68".  This is Starflower Christmas by Laura Muir for Create Joy Project.

Savannah Squares, and Through The Woods by Jackie MacDonald for Sweetfire Road.  This 93" x 93" quilt uses one Jelly Roll, 1½ yards of Accent 1 - the Light Gray block sashing, ½ yard of Accent 2 - the Mustard Cornerstones, and 4½ yards of background.  Through the Woods pre-cuts are on the way to shops now.

Step This Way is next.

American Jane's Story Time.  (Didn't I just write that it was really cute?) This 68" x 76" quilt uses one Jelly Roll and 3½ yards of background.

We also played with a Grunge Junior Jelly Roll for another version of Step This Way.

This is made with two Grunge Yuletide Jelly Rolls - each Junior roll has twenty strips.

Ruby Star Society's First Light is the star of Quadrangle.  At 67" x 67", this quilt uses one First Light Jelly Roll, 1 F8 for the Cornerstones, and 2½ yards for background.

We're always asked about how to line up the edges of Jelly Roll strips for accuracy, and last year, we shared a few tips, especially for making four-patches.
