How are you coming on your Vintage Greenstone QAL project? There really are not many different steps to this QAL, which is what I like in making a quilt. Quilting is my therapy and the more somewhat mindless repetitive sewing the better.

Today I am going to share with you an update on the color option using V and Co's Ombre Fluries Metallic collection. I am going to set these blocks a little different with sashing and cornerstones.

I am still playing with it and may use a square in a square block as my corners.

Back to the Vintage Greenstone version.

Here is a close-up version of the quilt in progress. All is complete except for stitching the binding down.

Choosing what design to use to quilt my quilts is always the toughest part of this process. There is no looking back so you want to make sure the design compliments your piecing. 

I wanted this quilt to look vintage so I asked Maggi Honeyman to do an allover diagonal grid. She used the design from intelligentquilting.com named Crosshatch Continous Block. I love how it turned out.

I had mentioned the fabrics I choose for the backing but wanted to show a closeup of it here. In Jen's Greenstone collection she has a few of the skus that are all light shirting type fabrics. I pieced 2 of those together horizontally for the look of a scrappy backing.

And the final step for this quilt is the binding. I prefer to cut the binding on the bias unless the design of the fabric does not lend itself to that. I wanted the scrappy look so from the remaining dessert roll pieces, I cut 2 1/2"wide strips (straight of grain) and joined them together for a scrappy binding. You will need a total of 8 strips for your binding. I can't wait to see what fabric line Jen Kingwell comes out with next.
