Hi! I'm Alison from Little Bunny Quilts and I am back today with a fun quilt that can be made from a single layer cake and yardage! This project is perfect for those fabric lines that have large scale prints that you want to show off! It's small enough for a baby quilt but big enough for a throw to keep for yourself.
This quilt finishes at 55" x 55".
One Layer Cake of Manderly
1.75 yards Moda Bella White for background
0.5 yards for binding
3.25 yards for backing
From your background fabric cut the following:
192 -- 2 3/8 inch squares (for fast flying geese)
64 -- 2 inch squares
12 -- 2 inch x 12.5 inch strips
10 -- 2 inch x WOF strips
Separate your layer cake into 16 fabrics you want to use for the center of the blocks and 16 fabrics you want to use for the flying geese. Pair up one center fabric with one flying geese fabric. These blocks are easiest to make one block at a time. Trim each your center fabric square to 9.5 inches.
From your flying geese layer cake square, cut three (3) 4 1/4 inch squares.
Draw diagonal lines on twelve (12) of your 2 3/8 inch squares. Layer two squares atop each of your 4 1/4 inch squares, sew 1/4 inch away from the diagonal line, cut apart on the diagonal line. Press. Repeat with the remaining 2 3/8 inch squares, sew 1/4 inch from the diagonal line, cut apart on the line, and Press. Trim off dog ears. You will need twelve (12) flying geese for each block.
Sew your flying geese into four sets of three geese each. Lay out your block as shown below and sew together. Make 16 total blocks.
Sew blocks into rows of four with the 2 inch x 12.5 inch in between as shown below.
Sew your 2 inch x WOF strips end to end. You will need approximately 55 inches for the sashing in between the block rows and the top and bottom of the quilt. You will need approximately 60 inches for the sides of the quilt.
Quilt as desired and bind. Enjoy your finished quilt!
This quilt finishes at 55" x 55".
I hope that you enjoyed this project and that you find a layer cake to use with it! Come visit my blog Little Bunny Quilts and follow what I'm working on these days! I love sharing quilts here on Moda Bake Shop and I'm sure I'll be back here again soon!
